Third entry corresponding to the series of posts in which we are compiling different terms in a glossary of footwear concepts (3) . Within our field, there are numerous terms that refer to important elements in the manufacture and design of shoes. We continue with other concepts from the world of footwear arranged in alphabetical order.

Edge

Also known as the neckline, it is the upper edge of the shoe. Alternatively, the upper edge of the sole is called the edge.

Botier

It is a type of shoe manufacturing in which the heel is placed before the sole and the spike is glued in front of it.

Design briefing

A brief refers to the document that contains all the essential information for the shoe designer. For example, who the shoe is intended for, what style of shoe is a ballerina designed for, what is the selling price of the finished product, what country is the product intended for, etc. A detailed design brief should contain all the information that the shoe designer needs to get started.

Openwork

Piercings or holes made in the skin for aesthetic reasons.

It is a tool that favors the shape of the heel in the pattern we have available.

Cambrillón

This is an elongated metal piece that is placed in the area of ​​the shank. It goes from the middle of the heel to the beginning of the metatarsus, inside the insole or sole of the shoe. Its function is to reinforce the structure of the shoe like a crossbow, so that it can support the weight of the person, giving stability to the foot when walking.

Cheekbone

Also known as the anchor, it is the piece around the hollow or throat of the shoe.

Rubber

It is an elastic hydrocarbon that appears as a milky emulsion, known as latex, in the sap of various plants. It can also be produced synthetically. It is waterproof, very elastic, and has many applications in industry. In floors it is used as a base for vulcanization.
