Third entry corresponding to the series of posts in which we are collecting different terms in a glossary of footwear concepts (3). Within our scope, there are numerous terms that refer to important elements in the manufacturing and design of shoes. We continue with others concepts from the world of footwear arranged in alphabetical order.
Edge
Also called the neckline, it is the upper edge of the shoe. The upper edge of the sole is alternatively called the edge.
Botier
It is a type of shoe manufacturing. In it, the heel is placed before the floor and the spike is attached in front of it.
Design briefing
It refers to the document that contains all the essential information for the footwear designer. For example, who the shoe is intended for, what style a ballerina is designed for, what the sales price of the finished product is, what country the product is destined for, etc. A detailed design brief should have all the information the shoe designer needs to get started.

Openwork
Perforations or holes made in the skin with an aesthetic sense.

It is a tool that favors the shape of the heel in the pattern we have available.
Cambrillon
It is an elongated metal piece that is placed in the frame area. It goes from the middle of the heel to the beginning of the metatarsus, inside the insole or sole of the rider. Its function is to reinforce the structure of the footwear like a crossbow, so that it can support the weight of the person, giving stability to the foot when walking.
Cheek
Also known as the ankle, it is the piece around the hole or throat of the shoe.
Rubber
It is an elastic hydrocarbon that appears as a milky emulsion, known as latex, in the sap of various plants. It can also be produced synthetically. It is waterproof, very elastic, and has many applications in industry. In floors it is used as a base for vulcanization.
